If you have never heard of a Pierogi, it is basically a ravioli filled with some type of savory ingredient. Mashed potatoes and cheese is the most common that you find frozen at the store. You can buy them frozen or make them fresh. My Mom makes them fresh but I have never learned how to do that so that will be in a whole other post. This meal is an easy meal that comes together fast so it’s great for a busy weeknight.
Pierogies with Kielbasa and Cabbage
Ingredients
- 1 pkg frozen pierogies
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb kielbasa, cut into half moon pieces
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 head of green cabbage, cut into chunks
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and then add frozen pierogies. Cook until they all float to the top. Once they float, drain the water.
While the pierogies are cooking, heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet with sides. Add cut up kielbasa and onion powder. Cook until browned.
Once browned, add cabbage and water. Cover to allow the cabbage to steam. Cook for about 10-12 minutes.
While the cabbage is steaming, melt the butter in a skillet over medium high heat. Add the cooked pierogies. Cook and turn pierogies until you have browned both sides.
Once kielbasa and cabbage are done, add the pierogies to the skillet and mix to combine. Serve warm.
