Growing up, grilled cheese was one of those foods that I thought was just the best thing ever. But as I grew up and became an adult, I realized it just wasn’t something I cared to eat. That is until I discovered a grown up version of grilled cheese. You make this with 3 different types of cheese and sourdough bread from the bakery. It is so decadent and leaves you completely satisfied. Oh and the crunch sound it makes when you cut into it is I kid you not, the BEST sound a food could ever make.
Not your average Grilled Cheese
Crunchy and decadent grilled cheese
Ingredients
- 4 slices of pre-sliced sourdough bread (Found in the bakery section)
- 4 slices of muenster cheese
- 4 slices of provolone cheese
- 4 slices of medium cheddar cheese
- 2 tsp dijon mustard
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 1 pinch of thyme
Instructions
Melt 6 tbsp of butter in a small sauce pan over low/medium heat. Add garlic and thyme.
Let it barely simmer while you are getting your sandwich ready.
Heat a skillet to medium heat.
Lay your 4 slices of bread out on a clean surface and spread dijon mustard over one side of each slice (1/2 tsp each).
On top of the dijon side of the bread, add 2 slices of muenster, 2 slices of provolone and 2 slices of cheddar. Repeat with 1 other slice of bread. Top both of the cheese sided bread with the other dijon sided bread.
Next, brush butter mixture on all sides of the 2 sandwiches.
Put in heated skillet and allow cheese to melt and sides to brown (I usually put a lid on while it cooks to make sure the cheese is melted)
Enjoy!
Notes
You can mix up the type of bread and cheeses you use as well as omitting the mustard if you are not a mustard person. The mustard gives the sandwich a little bit of a sour taste so if that isn't you thing then I would suggest not adding it.
