Marinara sauce is a staple item that pretty much every household always has. My husband has never been a fan of red sauce but he was really impressed with this sauce as were the rest of us. It makes a lot and we have enjoyed it on spaghetti, in lasagna and in meatball casserole.
Homemade Marinara Sauce

- 3 medium onions (I used sweet)
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 2 (28oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup italian seasoning
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 1 tbsp garlic salt
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1/2 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
Instructions
1
Peel and finely chop the onions.
2
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium high heat. Add the chopped onions and saute for about 20 minutes or until the onions are a deep golden color.
3
Turn the heat down to medium low and add the minced garlic. Saute until the garlic is golden. About 3-5 minutes.
4
Add the remaining ingredients and simmer on low for 2 hours.
5
Makes about 8 cups.
