Green Beans with Caramelized Onions

I don’t know about you but finding side dishes to go with my meals has always been the hardest part for me. I came across this recipe years ago and after tweaking it a tad to appeal to my family a little more, it has become a favorite for all of us. Even my picky toddler loves them.

Sweet and savory side dish the whole family will love

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 large sweet onion, peeled and cut into thin strips
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp lemon pepper seasoning
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Cooking spray

Begin by boiling a large pot of water. Add green beans and continue to boil for 15-20 minutes.

While the green beans are boiling, in a medium skillet, melt butter on medium heat.

Add onions and sugar and cover.

Cook onions for 15-20 minutes or until they barely begin to caramelize (brown).

After green beans are done cooking, drain and put in large bowl. Lightly spray them with cooking spray and sprinkle the lemon pepper on them. Add onions and toss to combine.

Serve Immediately.
