Kielbasa is a perfect and relatively inexpensive meat to add in to your weekly budget. Here is a quick and easy way to prepare it. My family loved this.
Cheesy Kielbasa Pasta
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb kielbasa or smoked sausage
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 2 cups low sodium chicken broth
- 1 (14oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup half n half, heavy whipping cream or milk
- 8 oz dry penne pasta
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups cheddar jack shredded cheese
Instructions
Heat oil in a large skillet with sides over medium high heat. Add kielbasa. Cook until browned.
Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 20 seconds.
Add chicken broth, diced tomatoes, half n half, dry pasta and black pepper.
Simmer for about 15 minutes or until pasta is tender.
Turn off heat and add 1/2 cup shredded cheese. Stir to combine.
Top with remaining shredded cheese. Serve warm.
Notes
I use low sodium chicken broth because the kielbasa and cheese has a lot of salt in it already and regular chicken broth is too salty for our tastes.
